Following weeks of demonstrations of Iraqi people in different cities against corruption and shortcomings of Iraqi government, Iraqi Prime Minister, Haider al-Abadi responded by calling for a change. He issued a statement and proposed seven articles to start reform in Iraqi government as a first step toward fighting corruption and fraud. One of the most drastic of the proposals outlined in an online statement was the call for elimination of the posts of vice president and deputy prime minister "immediately". With no doubt eliminating former Prime Minister, Nouri Al-Maleki from Vice Presidency is far most controversial item among other articles.
Soon after former Iraqi
Prime Minister, Nouri Al-Maleki took his office in 2006, Iraq’s corruption rate
increased rapidly among other states and Iraq became one of the top corrupted
states. Nouri Maleki, who was backed by Mullahs in Iran, put Iraq in a new
phase of terror. Maleki presented Iraq to Iranian regime who turn Iraq to his
back yard. Iranian regime backed Shia Militias spread all over Iraq. Car
bombing and terrorist attacks became a daily habit for Iraqis who lost many
lives of their loved ones in those attacks. Maleki spent more than 800 billions
of dollars of Iraqi wealth in favor of both himself and Iranian regime’s
destabilizing projects such as backing Assad in Syria.
In 2012-13 Sunni’s provinces
stood up by series of demonstrations against Maleki who was paving the way for
his third run of taking Prime Minister’s office. The power of people was so
strong that took Maleki out of the office and Abadi became Prime Minister in
2014.
During the past year,
Maleki who was serving as Iraqi Vice President, employed series of activities
to crackdown Abadi administration and take back his chair. Abadi smartly
started to eliminate corrupted-Maleki’s appointed top officials in police,
army, and ministries.
And now, Maleki has no official position. Many popular
figures are calling for opening a trial against all his crimes and atrocities.
He is not immune from law anymore. This may end nightmare of Iraqis. After long
years of pains and sorrows, Iraqis may see a fighting chance. But the success
lies in tirelessness efforts of Iraqi people who want real change in their
beloved country.
